Wide Pony

SOFTWARE: Procreate Wide Pony is a poster designed for Wide Boyz, a climbing company co-founded by the crack climbing duo Pete Whittaker and Tom Randall. Known for their contributions in pioneering they style of offwidth climbing, the duo has developed several unique techniques, including the Wide Pony—a roof crack climbing move where the climber hangs upside down in a crack, mimicking the posture of riding a “wide pony.”

This poster also takes inspiration from Mari Augusta, an accomplished climber who made history with the first onsight ascent of Belly Full of Bad Berries, one of the hardest offwidth climbs in North America. To celebrate her achievement, the artwork depicts an anthropomorphic version of Mari as a pony, perfectly executing the Wide Pony technique.
